Twitter – Is it the new spamming factory?

Twitter - Is it the new spamming factory?Twitter has been the latest buzz in the social media world. With Twitter, nowadays it is easier to send message and spread latest buzz or news.

However, unfortunately the common ‘flu’ of misuse of social media – spamming intentionally and unintentionally has infected Twitter.

What I would like to focus is on the unintentional side of Twitter spamming.

The problem is there are huge group of Twitter users who are simply keep tweeting their site’s links without using Twitter for socializing purposes.

It is not entirely wrong. However, it will not the true spirit of twittering which the core reasons for its existence socializing and spread news in fast and simple way.

For me, by only tweeting links from our WordPress blogs such as, it will make Twitter to be a site fills with links which I believe if the trend continues, it will degrade Twitter and make those links to be meaningless.

This is because by sending to many links into Twitter without doing the core purpose of the Twitter’s existence which is communicating, people who serious about twittering will probably get fed up because all those links will distract and sometimes to the extent, annoyed them.

In my opinion the best approach is to have tweets of both worlds – tweet and communicate with others by offering helps to others and promote our WordPress blog’s links. I believe through this approach, this will help us to build our credibility to be a Twitter user with credibility. This will definitely help us to built followers of both sides – Twitter followers and WordPress blog readers.

There will definitely not a problem if we try to monetize our tweet such as through Sponsored Tweets as with the strength that we have built through the approach that I suggested above, it will not definitely affect our credibility. This will not only help us to generate new income stream as if we have built our strength of credibility in Twitter, even our followers will help us to promote our monetized tweets – just like what happened to John Chow.

If you decide to adopt this approach in improve your communication and increase your participation rate with Twitter, I would like share you with one of my earlier post which I am confident that you will learn something out of it – Generate Fresh and New Blogging Idea through TweetDeck. In this post, I will guide to how to use to TweetDeck in get to know with new Twitter user and help others who need helps within the same interest for example about WordPress besides helping you to generate fresh and new blogging idea.

I hope you can find your focus in using Twitter. If you want to be loved and followed with loyal and supportive Twitter followers, I recommend you to use my approach. I am confident you will earn and benefit something out of it.

By the way, feel free to leave your opinion and says on my opinion about this ‘unintentionally’ spamming in Twitter and my approach to improve our credibility in Twitter.

Cheers!

Agree wwith you. I ‘m nort really using my tweetter account.

  2. I’ve been guilty of mostly tweeting links, both to my own writings, and mostly to others in the same industry. While I would like to be a great source of information to people who are interested in accessibility, I feel that I have only established my credibility as a researcher and writer, but not as an expert. For those who are starting out, I would highly recommend to take time to communicate, resolve issues or even get into conversation. Those of my contacts who are from twitter are all a result of communication, and not the ones who read my posted links or even retweet them.

    I’m totally agree with you.

For me, the followers from communication are the one who will give quality visit to our blog.

However, the followers that we simply get by following them are mostly like zombies. They just be our follower because we are following them. The possibility for them to give a quality visits is low.

    That’s my opinion

Anything that has user submitted content (even in a micro-blogging platform such as twitter) will have spam. It’s a fact of life.

Does chatting in twitter counts as spamming too? I have some frnds who really go for the number of tweets rather than quality. They chat all day long on Twitter and sometimes it is pretty annoying.

  6. Helmi Asyraf (admin) says:

I don’t see how chatting can be some kind of spamming. I think that is the main idea of Twitter – to network + chatting. 😉

However, if it is to the extent annoyed, the power is still your hand i.e. unfollow them.

This is an eye opening post for me. I have been guilty of only tweeting links to my posts. I rarely ever use it to chat or have a conversation. I will try to use twitter for it’s social powers as opposed to just a place to post my links.

Hey I just clicked on the link in the post about John Chow. The sponsored tweet thing looks very interesting. Has anyone here ever tried it. I almost signed up until I read this on the signup form:
“The application Sponsored Tweets by IZEA, Inc. would like the ability to access and update your data on Twitter. This application plans to use Twitter for logging you in in the future. ”
What does this mean? Why do I need to grant IZEA access to my twitter account? Is it safe?

  9. Helmi Asyraf (admin) says:

I don’t think you need to worries as the service has been used by a lot of online and offline celebrities and bloggers especially.

They simply need it to tweet the ad as if you do not grant the permission and let us tweet by ourselves, there must be cases where people forgot to tweet the ads assigned to them or the tweet do not follow the proper guidelines.

Thanks, I am going over there to try it now. I have just placed products on my site for the first time last month. Now for the first time my site is bringing in money. It makes things so much easier now that my efforts are paying for themselves. We’ll see how the sponsored tweets work out. It may take awhile for me to build credibility in Twitter before It can bring some some money using this though.

  11. Mike says:

I just signed up. The system suggested 1.00 usd per tweet. We’ll see if I get any offers. tweeting for money seems so easy.

  12. ariff says:

It has come to the extent of annoyance already. These people go for number of tweets, some have reached >40k tweets. You can imagine how many tweets they send out per day.

Since they are following me, unfollowing them would prolly show them a sign of discontent.I’d pretty much avoid that since they are my friends.

  13. ariff says:

I’ve made some money through sponsored tweets. Yeah. It’s good money but still not enough to cash it out

  14. ariff says:

It is safe. Don’t worry. Sponsored Tweets can be trusted. They have handful of Hollywood celebrities tweeting for clients in their network.

  15. Mike says:

If it is not a lot of money to cash out maybe I can still use it for something small like pay per click google ads or something. On the note of twitter being annoying that is one of the reasons I never used tweet deck. I cant stand the little tweet noise that comes up every .5 seconds

  16. Kushal Chap says:

I have also been guilty of spamming in twitter. Whenever I enter a contest I tend to spam it sometimes

  17. Kushal Chap says:

Do you use sponsered tweet. i have just got one offer till now. Kind of sad 🙁

  18. ariff says:

Well opportunities like this dont come everyday and you cant really expect to make it as your main income source.

  19. ariff says:

I’ve disabled sound for any updates from everybody. Only enabling it on DMs and mentions.

  20. Mike says:

I need to try that. I started using tweetdeck again since I have read about it here but I can’t focus on anything with that irritating beep noise. Thanks for the tip.

  21. ariff says:

    No problem =)

  22. ariff says:

With all those sponsored tweets, magpie and others, I guess advertisement like that can be considered spam by someone else. I only use sponsored tweets as their ads dont come in often and the pay is based on per tweet pay, not per click

  23. Mike says:

I signed up for sponsored tweets but have yet to get any offers. I guess I need to lower my price. Anyone know how the calculate your suggested price? They suggested for me $1.00 per tweet.

  24. Mike says:

it seems a little less like spamming to me since you are posting to your own profile. If you were sending links to people that seems to me more like spam.
