The Secret Elements of High Impact WordPress Blog Logo
Creating a logo for our WordPress blog is definitely a must step for a WordPress blogger. Through logo, it will provide the very first impression to our WordPress blog’s visitor as most of the time, which is the first thing that will be seen by your blog visitors while waiting for the content of your WordPress blog to be fully loaded.
There are two important elements that a WordPress logo should have to be a good tool for branding and exposure.
Simplicity!
The first element is the WordPress logo should be simple enough to be remembered but not too simple which then show us we are too lazy to have design proper WordPress logo.
What I am trying to say on the first aspect of good WordPress logo is we should designed (or outsourced the designing job) a logo that can be easily remembered by first time visitors especially as this will encourage recurring visit. It will also not give us hard time in designing it because it is simple and not consume a lot of our time – as long as the logo is unique (means nobody is using it), it will be good then.
A clean and minimalist WordPress blog’s logo should be considered as it will not distract visitors and help to convey the true purpose of a logo – to show who we are and what our name is over and over. With complicated design, you will make the simple communication to be complex and make an easy and effective branding tool to be almost worthless.
Integration of The ‘Button’!
The second element is the WordPress logo should have the integrated ‘button’ element in it.
Plus
What can you see the similarity of the above WordPress blogs’ logos?
If you carefully observe the above logos, you will find that all of the logos above have the ‘button’ element that I mentioned before.
In my opinion, this is definitely the most crucial aspect of WordPress blog’s logo as this factor that will decide how far our brand will go and influence others. This is because through this ‘button’ which for the mini version of our WordPress blogs’ logo, it will help to represent us in easier way in other places, products or communities.
For example, I have used the Huzzer Magazine’s button extensively – in any place which I think is suitable and will give exposure and spread the Huzzer’s brand. I have used the H ‘s button in my favicon, business card, for Gravatar which will appear in any comments that I have left in other blogs, in forum such ProBlogger.com and social media site such as Digg and Twitter.
The same thing has also been done by others. For example, Darren Rowse has used the Problogger’s button in all his products such his book and ebook, other site like ProBlogger.com and as the profile icon in his social media site.
How Important Is The ‘Button’?
Rather show page of our face in the small gravatar box in the comment section which then make the picture to become worthless as it can hardly be seen by other, why don’t we put a simpler image of our logo’s button which can definitely easy and give high impact to other commentators and the blog’s author who have seen (or accidentally seen) it?
Here is one of the comment threads in John Chow’s article - The Easiest Way To Make Money with Twitter
From the above image, which Gravatar that will think that will attract blog readers who browse through the comment section and read the comment that had been left?
By putting enough effort in promoting our own ‘button’, it will give a huge boost in our WordPress blog’s branding within our blogs and niche plus in outside our communities through sales of our own products and participating in forums.
This will help us to bring our brand outside our circle in easier way. Without having the ‘button’ element in our logo, it can be pretty hard to bring out and promote our brand to others due to the size of the logo.
For example, for me, a good business card is a card that let the person that have the card pick up our details as much as they can in the first impression which I don’t think a business card with a huge logo will able to do it. With a big size logo, it will not only not helping to give a quick good impression, it will also distract the person to pick up your details and know more about you at a fast pace. Business card should be clean or with minimalist concept.
A Boost to Our WordPress Blog Branding
With these two elements in WordPress blog’s logo, I can assure you that the process of boost your WordPress blogs’ exposure and branding in a right and easy direction. These elements will help you to increase the flexibility element in your WordPress blog as this is crucial in bringing your brand outside your WordPress blog and to other communities through forums sites, Twitter and other social media site.
What do you think about the above two elements? Are the elements are really important for our personal and WordPress branding’s tool? Do you think that are there any crucial major elements that a WordPress logo should have? Feel free to share your opinion. I am eager to hear it from you.

It’s not just in blogs that simplicity is needed, it’s also in other companies & logos. The main reason I’ve stuck to a fairly simple logo is – not only am I completely rubbish at drawing & graphic design, but also because you have no idea what your logo will be presented on (such as black & white, print, mobile etc), so having it simple will mean it’ll degenerate well (have a look at the Problogger logo on a mobile device to see how useful it is).
Interesting points about the gravatar. I’m going to respectfully disagree. I like connecting with a face rather than a logo (though times may have moved on), and whilst your logo stands out, I’m not sure if it’d make me click. Then again I could be an old fuddy duddy in that respect
On the gravatar issue, I think there is always other side of other icon.
I do at the same time of your argument as showing of our true identity will always the choice for group of people. Maybe, I belong to other group, though.
I think the personal blog or blog that shows more personal journey and way of writing will choose their face as their gravatar as in will be inline with their blog focus and way of writing.
For blogs that focus more on serious topics and low personal element in their writing will choose the ‘button’ as for them including me, brand plays really huge role.
It’s a pleasure to follow a polite and reasoned argument, each respecting the other’s point of view.
Thank you for the compliment!
I always believe that there are always two sides of a coin and there are always alternative in everything as along as we look deep into it.
I like the built-in button aspect! I’ve always been a fan of simple logos, whether for a blog, company site, or stationary. As a designer, I have a hard time coming up with simple ones as a lot of the great ideas seem to be taken. haha
I do like the simple logo my husband designed for our company, NetworkingCreatively.com. Check it out!
Well, dang! I guess the logo is too new to be appearing on the site. haha Sorry, I didn’t realize hubs hadn’t added it to anything online yet…
Good work dude. Recently had to re-do my logo. In fact I’ve gone through about 5 revisions but I’ve finally found something that WORKS. Effective logos are huge, anyone who doesn’t understand their important doesn’t really value their brand IMO
Anyways. Got your RSS. Drop by FJ’s hang out.
Oh, it is ok. Nevermind…
Do buzz me if your husband have out the logo up for his site (n_n)
Cheers!
I’m currently in the process of creating a logo for my site (it runs on WordPress), but I think you can effectively brand or represent your blog/business through a combination of your logo and your persona.
Use your logo on the things that relate to your business, while you can use an image of yourself (or a character in my case) when connecting with other people in social media outlets – like blog comments and Twitter.
I really love the size, font and colour of your WordPress logo and header.
For me, it is really a ‘high impact’ blog header and logo.
Cheers!
While logos are undoubtedly good and apart from being a help to brand your blog, also promote it well, I want to ask whether for a newcomer (with not much capital) they are useful?
Or do we make the logo after the blog has reached a certain level of credibility in the niche?
I think a logo is important, no matter how new or how much you can’t afford a professional design. It is necessary that people recognize you and your logo of choice.
For me, it’s more about my photo than a logo. I’ve been on Twitter, FB, and LinkedIn and have blogged on many subjects before settling in my niche. People already knew me because I’ve always used my photo on everything. So, when I started the new site, I made a logo, but nothing too fancy, because I know what people recognize is me and my name, and that’s ok with me.
If you’re looking for a logo, head over and join ProBlogger.com and post your need. There are many graphic designers, both professional and beginner and I’m sure someone could get you something cool for a low price!
The best of luck to you!
Thanks Erica!
I am still a bit skeptical about the logo thing, mainly because I do not have a huge capital.
I am planning to use some of the little capital for promotion, so that the ball gets rolling.
I do plan to get a logo, but I don’t think it would be wise to spend right now, because frankly even if the logo is awesome but there are no people to see it, its useless.
So yeah, traffic first, logo next. But I will post in problogger.com for the logo
Thanks again!
You see, i never thought of integration of button to my blog. Really nice tip. Thanks for sharing.
No problem!
Good to see you over here and know that you can get something new from this site.
Cheers!
Trust me I found a lot of other useful stuff here. Just keep up the good work.
Great tips. My site logo took forever to come up with- even though it is really simple now, I had the hardest time trying to fit in a ‘button’ look, one that didn’t look silly. After trying several versions I finally stuck with the one I have now, as it just seemed to fit.
best I could do for a ‘button’ was using elements of my design and the same colors for the font.
If you have any better suggestions I would love to hear them!
Hi Eve,
Good to gave you over here. Hope to see you again soon.
About the ‘button’, I think for blog that is more ‘personal-focussed’, it would be better for you to use your own picture.
It is because it will help to create more personal and closer relationship.
You have really unique blog by the way. Cheers!
guess i’m using this method now
Good to know that the above tips can give you rough idea in creating good logo.
Happy new year and hope that have another great year!
Great discussion. I do believe that a button in a gravatar image is great for some applications especially technical applications. For persoanl branding like myself as a public speaker in the self help area a friendly face is much better. (In my opinion)
Buttons are also important. Do you know what you would use to make one. Illustrator on photoshop.
yes i would like to know this was well. Or maybe a suggestion for a design company
For me photoshop is already enough
I dont have photoshop or the skills to use it…or the budget to buy it.
You know you dont have to actually buy it though
Skills.. I don’t have much, only the basic stuff
well in that case….:)
good point Julia. This is why I don’t like to use the comment option titled intense debate. The title seems to encourage a different kind of interaction.
It’s everybody’s dirty little secret
Im sure id feel to guilty for stealing it. My brother has the full version if anything I can use his. It seems pretty hard to use though if you have never used it.
