I use this only during certain times when using highly competitive keywords. But most of the time, I use the long tailed keyword strategy

i dont use adwords but i do use the adwords keyword tool. You can use it without having an adwords acct. It is a great resource.

The best thing (besides it being free) is that it is made by google and since you optimize for google mostly you get good results as opposed to using some third party software that is guessing at the keyword search numbers.
