17 WordPress Themes for Musicians Which Will Make Them Sing All Day Long

Internet nowadays plays a really important role for the success musicians and bands. It is because those who are the target customers spend most of their time in the internet and prefer to download songs from the internet instead of have to go to music to store to get the latest album from their favorite singers.

* For your information on how big is the market for music industry in the online world:

While consumers bought more than a billion individual digital tracks in the United States, which accounts for a majority of online sales worldwide, they bought only 65 million digital albums in 2008.

-NY Times-

Therefore, it is totally a waste to ignore this new environment for the music industry as if they (record labels and musicians) fail to cope with the change, they may lost in the battle with others who actively involved and built their present in the online world.

Among those who have succeeded to integrate in music with online world is ITunes and Radiohead.

For ITunes, in has managed to sell 9.9 billion songs from early 2003 to early 2009 which accounting for 70% of worldwide online digital music sales base on Wikipedia.

On the other hand, Radiohead switched their marketing strategy by letting their fans to set their own price they would like to pay for Radiohead’s latest album, In Rainbow through online site. Then only, the band had the physical release of the album. The result – more than three million copies of the album were distributed in the first year, in digital and physical formats plus the album still made more money than either of the band’s previous two records.

  1. I still wonder what make these themes be special for musician. I will check it trough the link.

  2. adriansabah says:

Interesting, although some themes like StudioPress is suitable for many niches and topics. The challenge is in making your own site look great. I always find it tough to change the colors in wordpress and finding photos to match the themes. Still, wordpress rocks!

You have a great concept for this magazine. Love it.

  3. Helmi Asyraf (admin) says:

Actually, I selected the above themes base on few criteria for example have short page so that no requires a lot of scrolling for the visitors, have video/music section to showcase their performance and songs and at least a section that can be used to inform their fans for th latest gigs, news and album that they have launched.

Is there any theme that you think does not suit to be put in the list? Have any other suggestions?

  4. Helmi Asyraf (admin) says:

My advise is to learn through try and error in your css file to learn about changing colors. I have learnt a lot from the process.

My tips – open the css file, use CTRL+F function to find the part that you want to edit such as Sidebar. From there, try to go one by one. Keep refreshing your blog to see what changes that you have made.

Btw, it is better for you to have color picker tool such AdesClrPicker. It will help you a lot as you will definitely need the color that your sidebar has before you can change it.

Thank you for your compliment. Hope to see you again. How about you join the contest that this site is currently having?

p/s After visited your site about Sabah, it has made me feel like to make blog about my hometown, Melaka 😉 Great site!

  5. ariff says:

I guess the TV elements theme is suitable for video producers other than musicians.

The office space theme on the other hand is more suitable for real estate blogs.

    Just my two cents =)

  6. Kushal Chap says:

Hmm.. I don’t get how some of them are musical type. For example, Lumin to me looks more like a portfolio type site and I think most of the themes on this list are too expensive and look too close to some of the free themes out there. Maybe I am just a cheapstakes 🙂 .

p.S. Elegant Themes is the best for premium themes at cheap price. Just love it!

  7. Helmi Asyraf (admin) says:

I do not totally agree with you.

I think for TV elements + minimal tweak, it can work great as website for musician especially for those who have a lot of performances. So, they can showcase them through the video section. There are also sections that can be used for events calender and normal blog at the bottom of the front page.

For the Office Space, I don’t see it as real estate blog as I don’t think realtor need video space for their site. Plus, I do agree that that the theme looks a little bit formal because of the greyish color. However, with some CSS tweak on the color element, the theme will work great.

    What do you think?

  8. Kushal Chap says:

I think that evid theme from elegantthemes might also be one that might be in this category. Just my opinion

  9. Mike says:

I think these themes are great. The large pictures spaces and video spaces are great for music pages. Music fans generally don’t go to their bands websites for the music only but for the performace videos and pictures. I have two sites for my music group trinity takeover. One is a static site and the other is wordpress based. I have noticed visitors return more to the wordpress based blog than the static site and spend more time on there as well because of the constant updates. I will probably use one of these themes and shut down our static non wordpress site. Are any of these free? I am also going to check out the post you did on the free themes. Maybe I can find one there for our band.

  10. Helmi Asyraf (admin) says:

Unfortunately, all of these theme are premium themes. However, if you want still have free theme, you can give a try on Graphic Paper Press but I am not sure how well their support will be.

  11. Mike says:

Thanks, I think I may have to suck it up and get a premium theme. Especially for the band since people will judge the band by looking at the site before they even hear the music. Image quality is so important with things like this.

  12. Kushal Chap says:

You might not have to. You could win this contest 🙂

  13. adonea says:

Thanks for this list. I’m looking themes for my next project, music site.

  14. Mike says:

That would be great if I did. I want to upgrade my site. We have some professional pictures and videos that my current theme doesn’t do any justice to. If I won I would very excited to use one of the themes. I think it would help us keep some of the traffic we get on the site and would definitely make me feel more confident in sharing the site with others.

  15. Mike says:

Whoever wins it will still be great though since I’m sure everyone has a use in mind already for the prizes.

  16. Mike says:

please let us know when your music site is up. I may draw some inspiration from you 🙂

  17. Mike says:

I think the most crucial thing for a music site is high quality professional band pictures. That is what is really making these themes shine.

  18. Craig says:

You’ll find some cool themes over at 85ideas.com as well. I modified one of theirs for my site. Turned out pretty nice!

  20. Mike says:

Thank you. Your site looks very good by the way. I think I will wait to see the outcome of this contest before I buy a theme.

  21. ariff says:

Thanks! Was looking for new theme sources

  22. Mike says:

The backstage theme is very tempting for me. I want to buy it for my band. I think I will hold out for awhile though. anyway thanks for the list. It will definitely be a resource for me in the future.

  23. Kushal Chap says:

can’t wait to see how it will look in your blog

  28. Mike says:

wow thanks for the tip on the color picker. That opens up a lot of doors for site changes.

  29. Mike says:

its called trinity takeover. I am working on updating our blog now. I’m tempted to buy one of these themes but I think ill hold off for a while.

  30. Mike says:

thanks, which site of yours is using their theme?

  31. Kushal Chap says:

Thanks for the heads up. i have never heard of it.

  32. Tinh says:

Lumin is my favorite one. Thanks for great collection!

  33. Vanessa says:

    What about StudioPress’s Amped theme?

  34. Helmi Asyraf (admin) says:

Thanks Vanessa for the information. I have totally missed out the theme. The theme is totally for musician.

  35. John says:

Some excellent themes, i personally like the elegent and woo themes in this post.

  36. Ric says:

Oh. Thanks for including the Church theme. Music is our universal language. That’s why it is always universal to blog about music. Everyone loves their own music.

  37. 2Tuff says:

Although this list is fantastic and is loaded with tons of great themes for bands and musicians I’ve found that a lot of themes miss out on the training end of things and for musicians this can save a lot of time. I came across a great site at http://www.wpbandthemes.com and they provide training for both WordPress and the music business but they also give you a varied selection on which themes you want to use. Cool site…

  38. Rebecca says:

I disagree with the comments that some of these themes don’t look music related. I think they are all exceptional picks!

Usually when I come across an article like this, you can tell the author just went with the first 10 half decent themes he found. These are great and make me want to switch my site layout. PopLife76 is the one that got me.

Now if only they were free. That contest isn’t still going on is it? 😉

  39. Hey Helmi, it’s Helmi right? Thanks for this informative post. I always enjoyed round up posts for graphics and you can be assured that I will be bookmarking your great list. I do have to agree with someone’s comment though on how some of these can be quite general rather than musician-themed, such as the Lumin theme.

I own a music-themed site myself so I found the list to be of help! Good post!

  40. Alex says:

Great list of themes. It doesn’t matter is they aren’t all specifically music related, they’re all great looking!

  41. Tom says:

Some of them are nice, some aren’t. There is one which doesn’t seem to be working anymore: Band Website Template.
I’m just looking for good theme for my rock band as well, and there is one more that I found which isn’t in your list: http://www.mybandtheme.com
It seem to have a lot of useful features. What do you think about that one?

  42. Andrew says:

Thank you for this great post. those templates are amazing, they look really great!

I agree what Rebecca says, they are all exceptionals.

This one is another great resource for musicians, it’s free and you can get your own website with a lot of features, sell your songs, share your photos and many other great features totally free.

    Try it out EsongStore

  43. Chris Quinn says:

I’m going to go with the Pop56 or Pop76 theme. Thanks for this post!

  44. Eric says:

    Very nice collection of themes!
