Hey there Helmi.
What a nice share here. I’ve seen most of the wordpress design and TechCrunch really attracted me the most because I’m looking forward in information blog.
TechCrunch still alive until today because they are providing a high quality content and also providing the best wordpress themes which is really simple, attractive and most importantly user friendly which creates readership.

I don't like flickout or logo instinct. They may be good designs on paper, but I think for a person with an average screen resolution, they are pretty annoying.
Meh. I don't think I like any design which focuses too much on video or images. I am one of the good ol' fashioned text blogger :P

I am with Helmi on this one. Carsonified is really unique.
@Aqif
Techcrunch's design isn't new or innovative. It is perhaps the most common professional design.
And techcruch is huge! So, they really spend a lot to live up to the content quality expectations.

These are some awesome designs. I think that Wordpress is one of the awesomest CMSes out there, and I use it on my site.

It is! Blogger is good for starting out, but once you know what you want, wordpress is the way to go.

Wordpress.com is also pretty good for starting out, too, but again, a self-hosted Wordpress installation will be even better.

I use to use blogger. It was VERY limited. I wouldn't even recommend it for beginners. Beginners might as well start out by learning the best software. That has been my downfall. After a year of working with blogger my site outgrew the platform and I had to learn another platform from scratch.

Is there a way to find out what themes are being used in these sites? I like the flick out site design.

Even blogger is good for starting out. The learning curve on blogger is lesser than wordpress.
But once you are out of that novice stage, you should definitely switch to wordpress.

Mike
The learning curve is lower but you waste time learning something that you would eventually leave anyway.

Really? But for me, in overall MyRather's design is a great one.
Maybe, each of us have their different taste and interest on which concept will make WordPress looks great.
For the logo, it seems that we at the same side now (n_n). The site looks simple and yet cool. Love the click and drag element though.

TechCrunch And MyRather attract me because of their cleanliness. All other designs are also good but it depends upon the niche you’re in and the type of the content you want to fill in.

It seems that we have the same interest.
For me, best design for WordPress blog is to let the design to be as minimal as possible because there will be less 'noise' that will disturb the readers.
What do you think Sanix?
October 31, 2009 1:21 pm
Sanix @technize
Exactly Helmi. I love the elegance of Apple products because simplicity and elegance are the key to any design.
You can see the following wonderful video that explains the importance of careful design:

Try to check out the WPZOOM's Monograph and Theme Forest's Convergence (cheaper option).
Both of these will suit minimalist concept that your site has at the moment.

I think you should use cronice instead of convergence. In my point of view it looks slightly better
